Intex 12-Foot Pool: A Three-Year Retrospective

Three years ago, we took the plunge and invested in an Intex 12-foot pool. It’s been a fantastic addition to our yard, providing countless hours of enjoyment. This review details our experience, including the initial setup, maintenance, associated costs, and overall assessment.

Initial Setup and Costs

The Intex 12-foot pool kit, purchased from Amazon, included everything needed to get started. The initial cost was approximately $150, although prices seem to have risen since then. While current prices may be closer to $200-$250, we still believe it’s a worthwhile investment. The kit came with a basic filter, which we later upgraded to a larger, more efficient model for around $100. This upgrade is highly recommended. We’ll include a link to the filter in the description below.

Beyond the basic kit, we also purchased a few essential accessories. A felt bottom, placed underneath the pool on top of a leveled sand base, provides a softer surface and added protection. A solar cover helps to warm the water, especially useful in the cooler months. Other smaller purchases included a pool net (around $20) and the solar cover itself, also around $20. Including a few inflatable toys, the total investment was approximately $300.

Maintenance and Durability

Maintaining the pool has been relatively straightforward. The upgraded filter significantly improves performance. We’ve also been diligent about keeping the area under the pool clean and free of rocks to prevent damage. While the pool itself has held up remarkably well over the past three years, we have noticed some rust developing along the metal frame and a few broken connecting pins. Replacement pins are readily available and inexpensive.

Overall Impression

After three years of use, the Intex 12-foot pool has proven to be an excellent value. It fits perfectly in our yard and provides ample space for swimming and splashing. Despite minor wear and tear, the pool remains in good condition, and we anticipate getting another year or two of enjoyment from it. The convenience and affordability of this pool make it an ideal choice for those seeking a backyard oasis without the commitment and expense of a permanent installation.

In summary, the Intex 12-foot pool has been a worthwhile investment. From setup to maintenance, it has proven to be a user-friendly and enjoyable addition to our outdoor space. The combination of affordability, durability, and ease of use makes it a highly recommended option for anyone considering a backyard pool.
